isn't it romantic?!
haha...it's the title of a french poem read by mam dans lee during our french 11 class.

it's a sad poem actually. the author, the guy, bought birds and flowers for the one he loves. unfortunately he was not able to find the girl in the slave market.

Yes! the girl is a slave. i think that's the irony of the poem... he can buy birds and flowers but he can't "buy" the freedom of l'aime (his love)...
